Illumina is a biotech company that offers next-gen sequencing solutions and plays a major role in the ENCODE project. This company was incorporated in April 1998 and develops systems for sequencing DNA and collecting data for genome methylation studies. Its headquareters are in San Diego CA. Illumina constantly is making genome sequencing cheaper and has rechead a price of around 1,000 usd per genome. Illumina is such an important company to those working on the ENCODE project because its machines account for 90% of all DNA data produced making it a near monopoly of the genome-sequencing market.
